The vision of Southside Christian School (SCS) became a reality in August of 2006 when a group of parents established a board of directors and hired their first teacher. These families from Johnston and Wake counties desired a school that could offer smaller class sizes with a focus on rigorous academics and Bible-based character training.
Fourteen students attended that first school year.
In August of 2007 school enrollment rose to 36.
The board of directors asked Jenene Davis to serve as administrator beginning in 2008, and the student body almost doubled in size to serve 65. Mrs. Davis continued to serve as administrator, and a host of qualified volunteers were utilized to make up for the lack of support staff.
The 2010 school year began with 130 students enrolled. Enrichment offerings were also expanded to include Spanish, Latin, computer skills, PE, music, and art in an effort to offer a well-rounded education that ministered to the whole child.
SCS graduated its first eighth grade class in 2011.
In 2012, the board of directors approved a proposal to partner with Amelia Christian Church to house our middle and high school.
SCS was officially accredited through ACSI beginning in 2013 and March 2018 we hosted a joint ACSI/AdvancED Peer Review Team for our 5 year re-accreditation.
SCS was blessed to hire Chad Jewett as the administrator in July of 2014.
The 2015 school year brought our enrollment to 235.
The 2016 school year proved to be a monumental year as SCS prepared for our first graduation.
Eleven students graduated from SCS, and they were offered over $600,000 in scholarships to various colleges and universities.
During the 2016-17 school year the SCS board hired a consultant to help the school define its strategic direction. Dr. Daniel Patton provided counsel to the board of directors in the areas of leadership assessment, board development, and strategic planning.
Dr. Patton was hired in the spring of 2017.
Our school opened its doors for the 13th school year August 2018 with 305 students enrolled.
Space constraints and limited use of facilities compelled the school leadership to focus on land acquisition on which to build a consolidated campus.
Supported by the elders of Southside Church, SCS began functioning as an independent school in June 2018.
The school has recently purchased 30 acres of land and has hired a Site Planning Company and an Architectural Firm to prepare the initial conceptual design for the future SCS Campus that will have enrollment capacity of 585 students.
SCS has not changed its mission since its formation in 2006. Clarity was provided in 2017 when the Head of School added the term college-preparatory to the mission statement.
The mission was and is, Southside Christian School is a college-preparatory, Christian school which exists to support Christian families by providing a Christ-centered education in an environment which challenges students to pursue spiritual and academic excellence.
